Beppu: Day 27

Erin and I didn’t really do much today. We slept in as late as we wanted and then surfed the web for a bit. Sometime around 2pm we decided to cook “breakfast” so we went down to the kitchen and got started. Yesterday we bought supplies to make egg and cheese sandwiches. I cooked the eggs while Erin readied the toast with melted cheese. We had some extra Camembert from last night so we decided to crumble that up and add it into the eggs. Our meal was delicious, to say the least. I really enjoy Japanese bread because the slices are huge and fluffy. The make for really good egg sandwiches.

After breakfast we wandered around town for a while. There really wasn’t much to see or do besides hot springs and most of the shops were closed for some reason so eventually we went back to the hostel. I did, however, take a picture of this guy.

His name is “Shiny Uncle”, apparently he really loved children and was the founder of tourism in Beppu. I have to say, he has an awesome statue. I hope to have a statue like that some day.

I forgot to mention that while we were out we bought food for our breakfast and lunch tomorrow. We decided to make PB&J for our 6 hours of train rides that await us, but we couldn’t find peanut butter. All we could find that was close was “peanut whip” that was in a squeeze tube. We ended up buying that, hopefully it tastes okay.

After we got back we surfed the web for a little while and I watched some shows on my computer. Eventually we went down to cook dinner, which were leftovers from last night. This time though, we added some cheese, which made things a little more interesting. It was good to say the least, I wish we had had a little more.

When we were done cleaning up from dinner, and while we were cleaning really, this guy was playing Wii Fit. I gotta say, it is actually fun. The balance games are pretty fun and challenging. I played a little while we were cleaning and then we got started on making our lunch for tomorrow.

The peanut whip looks interesting, doesn’t it? Hopefully it tastes okay.

In case you didn’t believe me.

The rest of the night was just relaxing more and surfing the web. I was reading about some photography stuff and some tech articles. Erin was captioning her pictures I think. Eventually we both bathed in our hostel’s hot spring again. It was nice, to say the least. Then we called our parents and went to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.

hahaha, Shiny Uncle. What a dignifying statue to be remembered by. Pretending to fly with a baby about to get himself killed. Excellent.
